Storyboard
Many people enjoy the company of a dog or cat. Nevertheless, in many cases the coexistence of humans and animals is not always successful and sometimes the relationship fails.
Based on statistics, there are 85 million of American homes include a pet. However, 70 million pets are estimated to be homeless.
Our pets give us so much – love, companionship and emotional support – So why are there so many stray animals?
Problematic behaviors, animal health and financial factor are the most common reason that owners give up their pet.
When the pets become homeless, it is not their fault. However, most cases can typically be traced back to their owners not having fully considered the responsibilities of pet ownership before getting pets, and making them more likely to give up.
There are many people closely related to this topic, such as animal shelter volunteer Susie, novice pet owner Dylan, Sajan who plans to have a pet, Lisa the cat person, Youhui who cares about stray animals, and veterinarian Abby.
Our primary audience is potential pet owners, like Sajan. He is the father of two children who would love to have a pet. But he now faces many challenges, such as he doesn't know what pet is right for his family and what is the correct way to keep a pet.
So I want to use graphic design to educate potential pet owners on the right mindset and approach to choosing, caring for and living with a pet.
How can I better help potential pet owners? I unearthed four key insights and developed strategies accordingly.
First, many potential pet owners do not consider their current lifestyle when deciding whether to get a pet. I will provide a way for them to evaluate their lifestyles to determine if they are suitable for pets and what kind of adjustments they might need to make.
Second, potential pet owners need to understand the characteristics, and pros and cons of specific kinds of pets. So, I will help them to understand different pet breeds, in order to choose the right pet;
Third, many people do not understand how to actually acquire a pet once they decide to get a pet. For this purpose, I will create a tool that connects potential pet owners with the information they need to acquire their pets.
To make the strategies work better, I propose four actionable deliverables, event, publication, multimedia and advertising.
The pop-up event is an opportunity for potential pet owners to establish communication with pet breeders and pet experts. Components of this event include posters, signage and support materials.
The publication is a playful learning kit to help people learn about different pet breeds and pet information, including pet breed cards, magazine series, self-evaluation forms, checklist and support materials.
Multimedia provides audience with live website and app with pet matching feature and pet knowledge.
Finally, is the motion graphic advertising on social media, which can effectively expand the influence and attract more people who plan to keep pets.
