Based on instructor feedback, make final refinements to your thesis deliverables. All items should be complete—even if you still need to construct one or more three-dimensional items. Finalize your visual system guidelines and user testing report as sections in a complete draft of your thesis process book. All content should be in place in the thesis process book. Refine the storyboard for your thesis summary video based on instructor feedback. Work out the narrative and structure of your Final Review PDF presentation. Use estimated times and storyboard the slides for your PDF. You can present a set of rough sketches, or a rough computer draft. It's your choice, as long as it can be clearly understood by your instructor.
Reflection
Embarking on my thesis journey has been a transformative experience, where I've learned the immense significance of a well-defined visual system. The process of creating a series of materials that visually work together has been both challenging and rewarding. This blog post is a reflection on my thesis journey, the vital role of my visual system, the impact of research on my project, and how it has shaped me as a designer.
At the heart of my thesis project lies a robust visual system. It's the backbone that unites all the materials I've created, ensuring consistency, clarity, and a distinct identity. It began with simple choices like typefaces and evolved into a complex framework that governs everything from point sizes to color combinations on different backgrounds. This visual system has been my compass, guiding me through the creative process and helping me align all my project deliverables.
Research has been my compass on this journey, illuminating the path forward. It provided the insights that informed my design choices. For instance, in the user testing, several users provided feedback about the cluttered visual design, expressing a preference for a cleaner and more intuitive interface. They highlighted the importance of easily accessing information about the pet breeds, their characteristics, and compatibility with their lifestyle. In response to this feedback, we made several critical design improvements. I standardized layout for consistency. Additionally, I reorganized the information hierarchy, ensuring that pet profiles and breed information were more prominent and accessible.
This thesis journey has been a significant milestone in my growth as a designer. It taught me that a visual system should be consistent enough that another person could replicate it successfully, underlining the importance of clarity and coherence in design. Establishing this system early in the project minimized the need for frequent adjustments and ensured that all my materials worked together seamlessly.
